A mantra is a mystical syllable or phrase for rituals and meditation. Mantras have a deep affinity with certain deities or spiritual forces that they represent; by chanting them, 1 is enabled to establish a link with such forces. The sacred syllable Om is the number one acknowledged of "seed-sounds". It has no semantic value but is considered efficacious.

About Mantra

A mantra is a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that are considered capable of "creating transformation" (cf. spiritual transformation). Their utilize and kind varies based on the school and strategy associated with all the mantra.

Mantras originated in the Vedic custom of India, later becoming an imperative piece of the Hindu custom along with a customary practice within Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism. The utilize of mantras is today common throughout many spiritual movements that are based on, or off-shoots of, the practices in the earlier Eastern traditions and religions.

In the context of the Vedas, the expression mantra pertains to the whole part which contains the texts called Rig, Yajur or Saam, that is, the metrical piece as opposed to the prose Brahmana commentary. With the transition from ritualistic Vedic traditions to mystical and egalitarian Hindu universities of Yoga, Vedanta, Tantra and Bhakti, the orthodox attitude of the elite nature of mantra knowledge gave method to spiritual interpretations of mantras as a translation of the human will or desire into a shape of action, with some qualities in normal with spells as a whole.

For the authors of the Hindu scriptures of the Upanishads, the syllable Aum, itself constituting a mantra, represents Brahman, the godhead, and also the entire of creation. Kūkai suggests that all sounds are the voice of the Dharmakaya Buddha — i.e. as in Hindu Upanishadic and Yogic thought, these sounds are manifestations of ultimate fact, in the sense of sound symbolism postulating that the vocal sounds of the mantra have inherent meaning independent of the learning of the individual uttering them.

Nevertheless, such learning of what a mantra can symbolize or how it might function differs throughout the many traditions and depends found on the context in which it really is created or sounded. In some cases there are numerous levels of symbolism associated with each sound, various of that are particular to specific universities of thought.
