A serial killer is found on the loose in Richmond, Virginia. Three ladies have died, brutalized and strangled in their own bedrooms. There is not any pattern: the killer appears to strike at random—but constantly early on Saturday mornings.

So when Dr Kay Scarpetta, chief healthcare examiner, is awakened at 2:33 a.m., she knows the news is bad: there is a 4th victim, and she worries today for those that usually follow unless she could dig up brand-new forensic evidence to help the police.

But not everyone is satisfied to find a female in this effective job. Someone could even wish To ruin her profession and standing...

About the Author Patricia Cornwell

(From Wikipedia) Patricia Cornwell (born Patricia Carroll Daniels on June 9, 1956) is the writer of the prevalent series of crime novels, numerous featuring the fictional heroine "Dr. Kay Scarpetta", a health examiner.

Biographical information

She was born in Miami, Florida. She is a descendant of Harriet Beecher Stowe.Shortly after graduating Davidson College (in North Carolina), she married her English Professor Dr. Charles Cornwell, 17 years her senior. Dr. Cornwell left his tenured professorship to become a preacher, and Patricia started composing a biography of Billy Graham's spouse. They divorced soon thereafter.

Cornwell has prepared many notable charitable acts, including funding scholarships to the University of Tennessee's National Forensics Academy, Davidson College's Creative Writing Program, and donating her collection of Walter Sickert paintings to Harvard University.

Eugene Bennett, a previous FBI agent, tried to murder his spouse, Marguerite, in 1996 because he thought that she had had an affair 4 years earlier with Cornwell.

Her writing

The Scarpetta novels include a wonderful deal of detail on forensics. The answer to the secret normally is found in the forensic research of the murder victim's corpse, although Scarpetta does considerably more field research and confrontation with suspects than real-life healthcare examiners. The novels are considered to have influenced the development of favored TV series on forensics, both fictional, like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and documentaries, like Cold Case Squad.

Procedural details are piece of the allure of her novels. Cornwell herself worked at a crime lab in Virginia as a technical author and computer analyst but not in any official health or forensics ability. Her tries to portray herself as an expert in those fields have caused some bad feelings from those who have actual training and licensing, including Kathy Reichs, who is both a board-certified forensic anthropologist along with a crime novelist.

Other substantial themes in the Scarpetta novels include wellness in general; individual protection and security; food; and family. Although scenes within the novels happen in a range of places around the U.S. and (less commonly) internationally, the city of Richmond, Virginia attributes prominently.

Besides the Scarpetta novels, Cornwell has created 3 more light-hearted authorities fictions featuring Andy Brazil, and a amount of functions of non-fiction.

Jack the Ripper

Cornwell has been included in a continuing, self-financed look for evidence to help her theory that painter Walter Sickert was Jack the Ripper. She published Portrait of the Killer: Jack the Ripper - Case Closed in 2002 to much controversy, specifically in the British art globe, where Sickert's function is admired, and among Ripperologists, who criticize her techniques and conclusions. See Portrait of the Killer for further info. But, Cornwell denies a Jack the Ripper obsession in full-page advertisements in 2 British magazines.
