Brand New (1 CD - 1 hour):

About Pretty Great Bits

Ever wondered what makes over 3 million listeners tune in week after week to Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion? Thought about a see to Lake Wobegon but not got about with it? Then is the time to discover out and take a specialized tour. Pretty Great Bits is a specialized limited edition sampler containing "very superior bits" from this favored radio system, including an episode of Guy Noir: Radio Private Eye, advertisements from fast sponsors, trademark sound effects, along with a classic News from Lake Wobegon monologue.

About A Prairie Home Companion

If you showed up on July 6, 1974, at the Janet Wallace Auditorium at Macalester College in Saint Paul and plunked down your entrance (50 cents for kids) to attend the first broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion, you were in select firm. There were about 12 individuals in the audience. But those in attendance thought there were worse techniques to invest a Saturday afternoon, thus Garrison Keillor and the APHC team went on to provide close to 500 live shows in the initially 10 years alone. There were broadcasts from this venue and that, until March 4, 1978, when the show moved to The World Theater, a beautiful, crumbling building that has been 1 plaster crack away within the wrecking ball. (Now completely renovated and renamed The Fitzgerald, it's the show's house base.)

In June of 1987, APHC ended for a while. Garrison thought it was a wise decision at the time, but just 2 years later, the show was back, based in New York and called American Radio Company of the Air. But there's no area like house. So in 1992, it was back to Minnesota and, after, back to the aged name: A Prairie Home Companion.

There has been a lot of adventure in the previous 30-plus years — broadcasts from Canada, Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, Iceland and virtually every among the 50 states; fabulous performers, little-known and world-renowned; standing ovations and stares of bewilderment. We've missed planes, coped with lost luggage, dodged swooping bats and hungry mosquitoes, plodded through blizzards, and flown by the seat of our trousers.

Today, A Prairie Home Companion is heard by over 4 million listeners each week on some 590 public radio stations, and abroad on America One and the Armed Forces Networks in Europe and the Far East. Garrison recalls, "When the show began, it was anything funny to do with my neighbors, and then it became an achievement that I hoped will be lucrative, and today it's a advantageous technique of lifetime."

A Prairie Home Companion is yielded by Prairie Home Productions, and distributed nationwide by American Public Media. The system is underwritten by General Mills and Ford.
